Shelterbelt Examples

The following wind speed profiles for different shelterbelts were put together by Dr Rod Bird of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Hamilton Victoria. Each example provides insight into how farmers might better manage or design shelterbelts so as to provide the shelter they require, whilst avoiding problems such as wind tunnelling through gaps.

This research demonstrates the importance of tree height, porosity, gaps, and width of the plantation on the wind profile.
